Thousands of people are expected to take to the streets of Lisbon on Saturday, 6 June, for the 27th Lisbon LGBTI+ Pride March.
At a time when LGBTI+ rights are facing growing political attacks in several parts of Europe and the world, Pride remains much more than a celebration. It is a public affirmation of dignity, equality and human rights.
Portugal has made important progress over the last two decades. Same-sex marriage is legal, discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity is prohibited by law, and legal protections exist for many LGBTI+ people. Yet legal equality does not automatically mean lived equality.
Across Europe, anti-LGBTI+ rhetoric continues to gain visibility in political discourse. Trans and intersex people are increasingly targeted by organised campaigns seeking to restrict rights, healthcare and public recognition. Hate speech and hate crimes remain a reality, while many LGBTI+ people continue to experience discrimination in schools, workplaces, healthcare settings and everyday life.
This is why Pride marches continue to matter
The Lisbon Pride March brings together LGBTI+ people, families, friends, allies and community organisations in a collective demonstration for equality and inclusion. It is a reminder that rights can never be taken for granted and that social progress requires continued participation and solidarity.
Whether you are Portuguese, have recently moved to Portugal, are studying here or have made this country your home, Pride is an opportunity to stand alongside a diverse community committed to defending human rights and equality for all.
Lisbon Pride March 2026
Date: Saturday, 6 June 2026
Meeting point: Marquês de Pombal Roundabout (Rotunda do Marquês de Pombal)
Time: 4:30 pm
The march will once again bring thousands of people onto the streets of Lisbon to celebrate diversity, demand equality and show solidarity with LGBTI+ communities in Portugal and beyond.
Starting at Marquês de Pombal, participants will march down Avenida da Liberdade — one of Lisbon’s most iconic and symbolic avenues — before continuing through the city centre towards Terreiro do Paço, transforming some of the capital’s most emblematic streets into a space of visibility, resistance and collective action.
Whether you are joining for the first time or returning once again, the march offers an opportunity to stand alongside a diverse community committed to defending human rights, equality and dignity for all.
A different Pride Month in Lisbon
This year’s Pride celebrations in Lisbon take place under unusual circumstances.
For the first time in many years, Arraial Lisboa Pride — traditionally the city’s largest Pride event and one of the biggest LGBTI+ gatherings in Portugal — has not been scheduled for June.
ILGA Portugal, one of the event’s organisers, has stated that the necessary conditions and support from Lisbon’s municipal executive were not secured in time to guarantee the organisation of the event, leading to its postponement. A new date has not yet been announced.
The absence of Arraial Lisboa Pride makes the Lisbon Pride March even more significant this year, reinforcing its role as a moment of visibility, community mobilisation and collective action in defence of LGBTI+ rights.
Pride marches across Portugal in 2026
Pride celebrations extend far beyond Lisbon. Throughout the year, communities across Portugal will take to the streets to defend equality, visibility and human rights.
